Now THAT`s a vise!!
Bob Hackett

>Yes, it was actually used for handsaws. During the early days of saw making by Disston, Atkins and others, they made some of their models as long as 36".
Most two man crosscut saws were longer than that and were breasted or crowned to a great extent. However, I suppose it could be used for those bigger saws, but it was primarily designed for handsaws.

Yeah, a sketch might help...not sure...

A sketch might help, but it doesn't matter. I know what I have vision of, and if I want to build it I can.
Sometimes trying to hold a conversation on apples vs. oranges is futile. I seem to be in that position with Marv more than not.

Spear and Jackson saw vice No. 114?

>Paul,
Have you ever had your hands on a Spear and Jackson saw vice? I am looking at a low definition photo of their No. 114 vice, reprinted from Spear's 1915 catalog.
It's an interesting design--cam closure of 9-1/2" jaws, but the cam action is at right angles to the jaw closing. Looks to be very simple and stout; the cam is quite big and heavy. It bolts down onto its base.

No - not even seen the catalogue. I have a small (9" jaws) vise by Woden.

Is it secret?

This thread seems to have lived it's course...

Nope. I have several ideas, was more looking to springboard them off others.

I think this thread has lived it's course. Maybe a topic for another thread...this seems like something that Rob Lee could solve with a modern approach.
Cheers,
