Hi all. It has been awhile since I have posted here on Wood Central. After giving myself a number of years to make sure it is what I want, I have decided to sell my turning shop. It has been listed in the Classified section.

Wood Central was my go to place for many, many years. In fact I was one of the first members when Ellis and Jim created it. I am pleased to see many familiar names still here.

Woodworking in the Round I live in the Eastern Virginia, Remlik to be exact. I have run a sawmill ever since 1985 when we brought new LT-40 home from Indianapolis. I mainly focus on custom sawing and custom flooring but also have some inventory that includes wood for turning. Even though I did not get serious about woodworking until we began building our house in the early '90's, I have always been interested in it to the point that I subscribed to and read Fine Woodworking ever since about 1984. Until 1997 I was very happy building furniture then I bought my first lathe and I was hooked. For the most part I have focused what little free time I have on turning ever since. The only other hobby I have is Japanese embroidery, which is on the opposite end of the spectrum of the instant gratification of turning. My husband and I own a country store and deli. In our case the description is deceiving since we sell fresh roasted coffee beans as well as coffee. Dan is an extraordinary BBQer and pitmaster so our deli meat offerings include pork BBQ, smoked salmon, prime rib, roast beef to mention just a very small selection. I have been hanging around Wood Central almost as long as it has been here.

Good to hear from you Barb. I've been undergoing a similar soul searching. For now I've decided to sell most of my flat ww equipment and stick to turning but on a reduced scale. Along with this is the decision to sell our rural place of 40 years, Change is sometimes hard but inevitable, best to control it as much as we can when we are able mentally and physically to participate in the process. Good luck on the next stage in your life.

Remember the old days when we both had issues setting up a vacuum system on our Nova 3000 lathes. Still recall fondly the nice day I spent sharing some of the sights around Honolulu with your visiting daughter.

sorry your getting out of woodturning. I guess that will happen to me eventually unless I can turn from the grave. I do miss your posts. I remember because I always got you confused with Barbara Dill.

Yes Jaime. I stopped sawing right before getting my knees replaced.

As a aside you are the second turner form years ago which has decided to close shop.

Eugen Schlaak has decide to move into an appartment and close his shop.

Hmm, what a time for me to finally, after many years away, to visit WC today. Gosh, Barbara, I still fondly and vividly, I might add, remember you showing Nancy and I your wood turning shop and then firing up that giant forklift to move a log around. Oh, and the side visit to your store/deli for some tasty BBQ hasn't been forgotten either. Someone is sure going to have a choice of some nice machinery from your shop. Best wishes to you, Barbara.

Hi Eddie, yes I do remember. It is good to hear from you. The restaurant is now in Urbanna. Dan died in 2014 and our youngest daughter, Sarah is the owner. She is doing an awesome job.
