I've got an old Wadkin Bursgreen, with a new spindle, motor, and VFD drive, compliments of the Classifieds here at WC. The WB also has the capability of turning 20" outboard, but I need a banjo to do so - I use this one for tailstock work, and to dry some of my peices. My main machine is the VB36 - simply the very best in bowl lathe technology; there is nothing, period, that this lathe cannot handle. I've thrown a lot of stuff at the green beast, and she hasn't quivered yet.

And no, I could not live without a second lathe, even if I had a VB and only a VB. There are too many good excuses for another lathe. I know if I worked any closer to full time in my shop, I could put at least one more lathe into production.

I recently bought the Jet mini for several purposes: 1.) to teach my 7 year old son to turn - he's now doing a spindle "solo" each time he turns, which is almost daily now - it's de facto becoming "his" lathe! (He now is asking when he can turn his first bowl!) 2.) To have a portable lathe to take to meetings and do demonstrations amd teaching sessions away from my shop - the 1642 is a a bit too cumbersome to move! 3.) to be able to have a separate lathe for small and miniature turnings si I can leave these projects on the lathe while larger pieces were being turned on the 1642. If shop space and money were no object, I'd be looking into getting a third bowl lathe with a larger swing. One can dream, no?

>2 AC powered "normal" lathes. One is for demo's and just general stuff like bowls, crafts, hollowforms, miniatures, etc. The other is for professional work on spindles like chairs, production work, columns, architectural stuff.

1 homemade AC powered mini minimalist lathe I take to some demo's to show what can be done on an $8 lathe that is under 20 lbs complete.

Working on the 3rd neander lathe. This one is a mini size while the others are big. All of them for Demo's and shows too.
