I have a Delta Midi and the Jet JWL-1642. I use the Midi for small stuff like pens and bottle stoppers. But it's also useful to leave my buffing wheels in when I'm in "production mode".

My main lathe is a VB-36 where I work 90% of the time; then I have the big VL300 when I need a tailstock......I may replace it soon with a VB-36 with a tailstock but for now I think I have a pretty good combination. Could I make do with one lathe? No way. There are many times when I have the Kelton hollowing rig set up on the VL300 and the deep hollowing attachment on the VB. I will work a while on one lathe and then switch to the other, either for comfort or for better visibility. I have adapters for the VB that allow me to use the chucks from either the VL300 or the mini on the VB. Time is money and anything I can do to save a few minutes puts meat in the beans.

1. Jet 1236. Got it in February and love it.

2. Shopsmith 510. Don't turn much on this anymore unloess I have someone over and we both get to turning.

3. Buffalo Lathe that was made in 1983. Not the sturdiest set of ways (1" bars) and only a single bearing headstock with a solid spindle (no morse taper). But heck, it has a 14" swing and only cost me $50 when I got it in 1997. Now it sets at my friend Ryan's house and he is turning some pretty cool stuff on it.

*4* I really want Jet mini or better yet a Vicmark for small turning and to travel around.

I just picked up an old wood/metal compo lathe that needs rebuilding. Doesn't have a feed screw so it can't do threads :>(.

Except for the combo we use them all depending on the project. We do a lot of turning.

>One 30 year old cast iron Delta, my main machine. Then there is the little Dihatsu with the 3/4 bolt thread, under powered mini. The third one is a Sears pipe-tube that is like new and smooth as glass. The 4th one I want is one my dad made when I was little, has wood ways, a pillow block head stock and washing machine motor. My brother has it now in his attic and I have to talk him out of it. That will make 4.

Roly, suffering through a suspended turning attempt in the shop, 5 hours so far, whew.

>You can't go wrong with a mini. I have the PM3520 and a Jet Mini. I keep my buffing wheels on the Mini and turn the bowls on the big one. I also can take the mini with me if I go to a WW get together and want to have my own lathe available for use. It sure makes getting instruction from wandering experts easier...you won't have to wait on someone else's equipment.

They are also really affordable...almost a no brainer...BTW...the Jet is the cream of the mini's IMHO.
