Re: Have I got a road for you!

William Duffield

I just looked at the map. I wish I'd known. That is one interesting road. On that trip, I think we took US-180 from Carlsbad Caverns to the Petrified Forest.

My favorite motorcycle road is rte 100 in Vermont, connecting to rte 4. We'd ski at Killington in the winter, bike/camp near there in the summer. But regardless of season, we'd drive up from Boston. Alas, haven't lived in the east for 13 years now, the bike is at rest. Probably should fix it up and sell it, but can't make myself do that.

Re: Danger, Will Robinson!

Bruce, a MN Galoot

I'm an ATGATT rider, a very unwilling organ donor. Having said that, one of my favorite roads is Hwy 139, south of Rangely, CO, one long canyon to carve. My riding partner and I were on that road some years back and for reasons I still don't understand, about a half dozen cars got between us, with him in the lead. We were using FRS radios, so he could assure me there was no oncoming traffic. You should have seen the faces of the car/truck drivers when I was able to pass going around the curves. That alone was worth the trip.

The last few years, the summers have been so hot and miserable that it's been hard to ride. I've been able to rack up only a thousand or so miles per year. So, my bike sits and occupies half my shop. I look at that space and contemplate how nice the shop could be if there were no bike there. :(

Good thing you didn't try that on Old Priest Grade

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

The old road is so named because your hair will be white by the time you get to the bottom. I found out that it's possible to fade the disc brakes on a Volvo on that road.

I've driven Old Priest Grade once, but up hill. That's the route that most of the motorcyclists prefer.
