>I saw a few guys who were tripping with abou ahlf that much gear!. Filled all the paniers, and towed a trailer. I carried as little camping gear as possible for a trip where the idea was to camp every day possible.
I wasn't in great shape at all when I started out, it improved a lot over the trip. I read FWIW that guys who trip only 50 miles a day often put on weight, because they cycle enough to get an appetite, but not enough to really start burning. I averaged about 70 miles a day it was pretty hilly, and I had bad head winds. My worst day was 40 miles and ended when the wind was so bad I literally couldn't advance the bike standing on the crank in my lowest gear, in a cold rain storm. When that happens in view of a motel...
