"As for availabilty of the planes - the #90 and large low angle plane will come first... we're milling pre-production versions of both right now, and are in user testing. Relaese should be early May-June. The large shoulder will be late June, possibly July...."
"The next piece of the puzzle (the "Jack") is coming in a month or two, and will consolidate our approach further. It is again, unlike any other low angle Jack on the market."
Dang, I'm waiting for the large shoulder!
Can't wait to see them.

Perhaps we should start some sort of group program to deal with this incurrable addiction to new Veritas plane introductions. Some of us (self included) seem to have severe physiological responses to these pre-announcements such as sweats, drooling, shakes, nervousness, impatience, confusion, financial jitters, etc. Maybe we could establish a 12 plane program or some such to cure this obsession, or maybe we could just ignore such emails and start a new group

And when are those Veritas anodized spile rods with the English/metric ullage marks due, Rob? One can never own enough measuring tools.

No, really, what Rob said over there, the East German swim thing, makes complete sense, of course, but it reminds me of what a music theorist said to me when I winced during an atonal Boulez piece (evoking an image of cats, bowling balls and a silver tea set falling down the stairs), "David, it's really MUCH better than it sounds!"

>I suppose for us OLDTOOL afficianados, the supply of vintage Stanley and Record is probably sufficient (for a few decades :-).
But with the demise of Record, I think there are now NO rebate, plough or combination planes on the current market, excepting Cliftons rather poor and hideously overpriced #405 clone.
Now if LN, or LV (or Clifton) could take a look over the #50/#050, #45/#405), #46, #289, #043, #044. #778, and combine the "best features of", we might just have something :-)

I'll leave working out which numbers are which manufacturers as a quiz.
Some people may want to substitute "rabbet" for "rebate", and "plow" for "plough". Feel free.

>... we won't be doing a #7.
One of the reasons our mouth positions are different from Stanley planes, is that we've modelled the location along the sole, in order to optimize how each plane "flattens".... our #6 will produce as flat a surface as a Stanley #7...(I seem to remember it acts "longer" than a seven).
If one looks at at the larger Stanley planes, it appears that mouth location was much farther forward than optimal. I suspect that balance was one of the reasons - a more forward location resulted in a rear handle location closer to the center of gravity of the plane.
I guess the trade off is how the plane performs in the air, vs how it performs on the wood! :)
