I remember there was a rule, and it related length width, and thickness. In my accident the real problem was how thick the piece was, about 2 inches thick, and it started up over the blade, and shot back at me. Which is something to consider because you really can't stand so far to the side of the blade to not only control the piece, but be wide of it when it flips 90 degrees and now you have to dodge the length of the board. I did a calculation of foot pounds of energy, and it was scary.
