My daughter, a DPT in a residential facility, gets hers on Sunday. We're worried that the "mental deficits" she works with will then stop wearing their masks.

Even though we're both over 75 and have other risk factors we are waiting since we both had Covid in August. NOT FUN . Get the vaccine and be safe.

My friend's daughter is a nurse in the covid section of the local VA hospital, She ahs been treating those with covid since the beginning. She was in one of the first groups to get the vaccine. Unfortunately she had been exposed to the virus a day or two earlier and a day or two after the vaccine she tested positive. She is recuperating and will be able to go back to work on December 28. Her husband and child did not get the disease. Husband works for Amazon and will be able to return to work a few days after her.

No. Probably not till summer I guess. Not over 65 and not high risk.
I will though as soon as I can.

My son, an RN, got vaccinated this morning. He told us this evening that about 3 hours after the shot he started getting hot flashes. My wife laughed. Nothing that caused him to leave work early. We are very happy that he is vaccinated. He has worked in the covid unit off and on since early March (more on than off).
We figure that it will be late spring before we will be able to get vaccinated. We are both retired, under 65 and in good health, so we guess that we will be way down the priority list.

Our daughter, next week, a nursing manager in a covid unit. My wife and I get to wait for a bit. It can’t come soon enough, but I’m grateful our daughter will be protected and I can hug her again.

New Mexico has a web site that lets you sign up so you can be notified when vaccine is available for you. We signed up yesterday.

I have a part-time gig working security at a local (2 minute commute) emergency facility. Got it last Thursday. My only side effects so far is the next two days I slept until 11:00 and when I finally got up I couldn't seem to get out of first gear. My second shot is scheduled for Jan 6th.

Wish I knew. I'm a participant in the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine trial. To satisfy the FDA's desire for some incremental data that they don't define they are keeping the trial blind until we qualify for our states vaccine roll out. There is 50/50 chance I've had the vaccine but no way I take any risk until I know if I've got the vaccine. They have vaccine reserved for trial participants so giving trial participants will in no way effect vaccine for general population.

My wife was vaccinated last Wednesday. She is a doctor at an MPLS hospital. It will be a while for the rest of us unwashed. Ironically, my older son got a job doing contract tracing work for the MN Dept of Health. It is all covid, all the time around here. I feel daring going out to the hardware store these days.

I don't feel that daring going to the hardware store, but then I have a 3M Racal air supplied helmet. It is amazing that in the most developed country on earth people are still wandering around wearing cloth masks. A DIY Racal plan is on Thingieverse. Even kids who play paintball have ponied up for carbon fiber air tanks. The helmets are super easy to McGyver. In fact the lab ones are mostly tyvek and disposable, so not particularly complex. It is amazing what the people who take all this stuff seriously consider serious.
I take PPE very seriously, but there is no good evidence masks work, and the premise is based on projectile transmission, while the evidence points to aerosol transmission. Racal is perfect for protecting me from that.

Whatever you use, make sure the exhaled air is also filtered before being returned to the environment. Typical shop N95 mask just blows exhaled air out a one-way port(s).

It's really easy to stick some packing tape to the inside of the valve. That's what I do to all of mine before I wear them for the first time. No one is the wiser, because no one asks about the valve.
I don't go anywhere except out to my shop and the dog run, and the few places my wife goes, she is very, very careful, so the probability of my catching it is pretty low, but I sure wouldn't want to be responsible for spreading it to someone else.

Masks are mostly about tamping down the spread, not about protecting you. Bought a tenon saw from a guy selling on Craigslist. He refused to wear a mask during the transaction. The saw is nice, but I was creeped out for a day or two afterwards.

If you don't like wearing a mask you really aren't going to like a ventilator.

Was the saw worth the period of being creeped out? You can always walk away from the situation next time if you decide it wasn't.
If this were to be the new normal, there would be all sorts of haggling techniques to come out of it

First dose on Dec 24th, second to follow middle of January. Our county had vaccine available for volunteer fire/EMS departments, so I put my name on the list. I was actually surprised to get it, our department is not tremendously busy, being in a rural area.
Reaction to it was pretty mild - minor fatigue maybe 6 hours after the shot, stiff muscle at the injection site. That was it.

Well if you get sick, you know, and if you wait you'll know....either way you will know....patience is a much touted but misunderstood virtue to the observer....Good luck my friend. Don't forget the placebo effect has been getting stronger over the years. Double blind studies are getting harder to statistically qualify, and have their "placebo" effect issues...

I believe that the placebo effect is demonstrable, and has become more operative, in studies that focus on medications for pain, blood pressure and similar conditions. My expectation is that efficacy against a pathogen would be distinctly less subject to a placebo or nocebo.
But I changed my mind about this view twice before I went ahead and posted.

Curious as I have never encountered a Never. A friend was doing a "survey' in early November, asking, "if you could be vaccinated today with a 100% effective vaccine what would you pay to get the vaccine?" Numbers of $500 to $1000 were not uncommon and the least anyone said was $150.
I studied the data for Phase 1 Pfizer Trial and animal trials done in Germany. It was known at that time the vaccine was going to be highly effective and there were zero adverse reactions in the Phase 1 trial. There was zero viral virus replication in vaccinated monkeys that were injected with large doses of virus .
I signed up for the Phase 2/3 trial. I was vaccinated with placebo or active in September. Pfizer has screwed the trial participants. We were told initially we would get vaccine if we were placebo when the FDA cleared for use. Well we have not. We are held hostage so they can get more data out of our bodies (we are monitored extensively). They will let us know if we are in placebo group and vaccinated only when we have the option of getting vaccinated outside the trial. A large sink is being raised about the double cross so the situation may change when they return from vacation.

I have already been in contact with it a few times. My wife my daughter and my granddaughter all had it. They all had colds my granddaughter lost her smell. I didn't have any symptoms nor did I feel bad at any given time around them. I have not got a flu shot since 1990 or so, and have not had the flu.

I missed canoeing in Canada this year and I see it will most likely take a Vac to get in in 2021, so yes, I will get it ASAP.
