Second pop video example......

In addition to Motown in my era there was the British Invasion, West Coast surf music, rhythm and blues, Country Rock, Hard Rock......and Bacharach-David.......and an example of their work which is, for me, perfect is on a YouTube video titled Dusty Springfield - The Look of Love on the Music of Yesteryear site......It's perfect in that Hal David's words capture all the feeling that you could ever hope for in a romance......Burt Bacharach's music is so sophisticated and fitting in support of those words.......and Dusty's sultry voice is unparalleled, captivating, and seductive.

Thanks again, Peter......

Music "reaction videos" are popular on YouTube. Here's one with a couple, probably unfamiliar with music from that era, reacting to this song.

Full version from the "The Real Dusty Springfield" album... remember the movie Casino Royale?

I used to drive a lot for my job and listen to Pandora while driving. Pandora allows you to create lists by entering a band, musician, song, composer, etc. One of my favorite lists was one I created using "Burt Bacharach" ... Dusty, Dionne & Dee Dee Warwick, Herb Albert, B.J. Thomas, Cilla Black, Perry Como, the Carpenters, Christopher Cross, Elvis Costello, et al.

Sailing.........

Musicians talk about listening to the sounds (rhythms/music) of everyday life. Christopher Cross absolutely captured the sound of a sailboat hull going to weather and hitting oncoming waves......doing seven knots upwind......beating to weather.......the rhythm of the waves against the hull......it's perfect......I'm on Lake Michigan in July......on a sunny warm day with a 15 knot breeze.......and three foot waves......making way.

Re: Sail (or fly) away.........

This one motivates me to follow through on my plan to sell and give away everything I own save what I can fit into a backpack, then embark on a slow boat (or a fast jet) not to China but the archipelago of the Philippines ("to Cebu!") to find a wife and a small bamboo hut under a coconut tree by the sea in which to start a new family. I try to keep my dreams realistic! :)

Enya......

It is a beautiful video........I always liked hearing this on the radio......now, being able to see the words was a treat.......the composer knew something of the world, distant places, and sailing (reaching is a sailing term).......good choice, Peter......I liked it.

About your plan........

Now, that's a great idea.......sell everything you have.......and go and impregnate some third world island girl in a hut on the beach.......I'm sure the men of her village won't resent you doing that.......especially her father and brothers.......you might end up being tossed into a local volcano as a sacrifice to the volcano gods.......just sayin.

Got it covered!

We were engaged for two years but called it off after the pandemic nixed my plans to retire there. From a broken family and living in an area where most people make less than $2 a day, and then abandoned by the father of their two kids shortly before the second was born, she was a hot mess. She never once asked for money, but I convinced her that her best option was to continue her education, and that I would help her if she promised to believe in herself and not quit.

She graduated with a B.S. in Political Science last June.

Recently, her mom's younger 27-year-old sister has been video'ing me daily, asking if I'm still coming there.

I guess she wants a college degree, too.  LOL

You may have an itch in your heart.....

it's for sure you have a hole in your soul......be careful.......nothing more dangerous than being in a romance and being vulnerable......a couple of years from now, I don't want to be hearing people asking whatever happened to ole Peter??.......and Ellis saying the last he heard is that Peter went off one day to hike in the rain forest and nobody has seen or heard from the boy since.......

Re: You may have an itch in your heart.....

No worries there.

The "engagement" took place after she told me her classmates, after learning she had a "foreign friend" who was helping her, were spreading rumors that she was sending naked photos of herself in exchange for money.

"How can a poor ugly girl like you (her skin color was too dark to be considered attractive by the local boys) be in college unless you are whoring yourself to a foreigner?"

That NEVER happened. I made it clear from the beginning that she was under no obligation to be my "girlfriend" and was free to date and do whatever she wanted.

I suggested that a way to put an end to that would be to announce we were engaged, if she were agreeable. She agreed, changed her Facebook profile to "engaged." She also added my surname to hers on her profile, which in hindsight was probably not a good idea. It was that and later on that I learned she was hoping that I would move there and actually marry her.

That sort of backfired, as I soon began receiving messages from other girls living there, saying that she was already married (she wasn't, I know how to check for that via their government), that she was pregnant again by a boyfriend she had there in college (she wasn't), and was just using me for money. Strange thing is, these messages usually had sexy photos of them and how they weren't a "bad girl" like her. LOL

Ah, the crab mentality in action. :)

It was a rough ride. She was 20 when I met her. She's now 27. However, my real objective was accomplished, my heart is fine, and I sleep well at night. ;)
