First pop video example.......

is from the Supremes......My World Is Empty Without You......on the fuTuRo re-fResh YouTube video site......There are hundreds and hundreds of possible pop videos to select from......what makes this one special is that it contains actual footage of the recording session where this #1 hit was made......you get to see the small tight quarters that were Studio A at Motown......made from a converted garage behind the house that was Hitsville USA......given the way The Supremes were dressed, it must have been cold weather......and all the people packed into those tight confines......The Funk Brothers with the legendary James Jameson on bass......Lamont Dozier and Brian Holland from the composing team of Holland-Dozier-Holland......a string quartet from the Detroit Symphony.......and even Motown President......Barry Gordy......in the control booth......

If you liked Motown, this is where and how it happened.......Thanks for your help, Peter.

A point of interest......

The four older white string musicians from the Detroit Symphony arrived at Motown to play on a recording......make a few extra dollars......and all their careers, they have played scripted music from classical composers where every note and nuance of how those notes are to be played is very tightly followed......now, at best, those musical papers in front of them on their music stands have an outline of the song and have chord changes or possible hooks that the composers want......these musicians are having to play from the heart......from their own sense of creativity......right on the spot just like the Funk Brothers......watch the cello player begin to feel the beat of the song with his left hand on his finger board before he starts to play......

Speaking of string musicians and symphonies...

Here's a little Toccata & Fugue from the lovely Vanessa Mae as she attempts to fill all the holes in Albert Hall...

June 30th 1995 at London's Royal Albert Hall

I was not aware of her......very talented and attractive young lady......Stradivari must be wondering what that variation is of his instrument.......beautiful sound at a fraction of the cost......

Another observation.......

The Supremes singing Holland-Dozier-Holland songs had gone on a musical tear......they scored 12 number 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in a row.......meaning each time they went into the recording studio to record a HDH song they came out with a million seller at least.....just imagine the excitement that had to be in the halls of Motown knowing that on this day at such and such time The Supremes are scheduled to be in Studio A to cut another single......if you were one of The Funk Brothers, it must have been so awesome knowing that you had been selected for that session......or the recording engineer......or backup singers......you were likely going to be a part of a recording that would be played world wide for years and years......that's why Barry Gordy, founder and president of Motown, was in the control booth......that's why there was a video camera to record a little history in that tiny room.......this song was about #8 in that string of 12 number 1s.......
