What Would You Do Dept.
With this [don't be obvious]
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
put some finish on it......and display it in your home or shop......after all that work, it will certainly be a conversation piece at least.....
Note To Self
Make sure the laser is set tight after you change boring bars
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
I don't know how much meat is left on the bone, but if it's enough and you really like the wood:
Remount bottom half and cut off ragged top and make a bowl.
Remount top half, cut off ragged part and make a contrasting base so it is a bowl on a pedestal of sorts.
Bill
No Meat
Whole thing (except for the neck and the bottom tenon) is less than 3/16"
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
That would inspire me to invest in a camera system.
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
3/16" is plenty (if you are careful). I'd trim the broken off the top and bottom, make a segmented ring, turn it to close the inside and outside sizes and glue it up. Then carefully sand the ring to the outside dimension. Too pretty to waste. And next time don't push the limits so far. Maybe go for 1/4".
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
Carefully with a sharp razor trim the edges somewhat , soak in oil and make a translucent or two lamp shades.
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
My first thought was Jack-O-Lantern.
Actually, I would spend about a hundred hours patching it, some how. Maybe slip some vertical pieces inside, bridging the gap, glue them in with a balloon to press them into place. Maybe some stained glass windows into the Soul? Then I would stare at it for years and finally throw it away.
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
Epoxy a band of copper or brass shim stock around the damaged area, the grain on the piece is awfully nice to waste
Re: What Would You Do Dept.
Align the break and leave an open gap, bridge the gap with a few 10ga copper wide staples, give it a woke title, and consign it with an exorbitant price to a pretentious gallery. You'll start a trend.
Thanks All
For the suggestions! Fortunately, I've still got a fair amount from that red maple so time is better spent making new than trying to resurrect the dead. It goes to the crematorium.
