Bill, for a magic wand you can take stick about 3/4" square and grind a taper on one end that will fit into the shaft if the head stock. Only need about an inch of taper. Insert into the head stock and hit the end with a hammer to seat it. Bring up the tailstock to support it. (assuming a No 2 Morse taper.) When nearly finished you can take away the tailstock and finish up the point.
Haven't made a bracelet/bangle in a long time but I think the hole size is about 2 5/8". Drill a hole in a scrap and see what she can slip her hand through. Assuming you don't have a chuck. Mount a scrap on a faceplate and turn a matching stub. Bandsaw a ring around the hole that fits and use the stub as a jamb chuck. Gently turn the outside of the bangle. You may have to turn it around to clean up the inside edge. You can also turn a groove in a scrap and jamb the bracelet into the groove to clean up the edges. For a slender more delicate looking bangle you and make some "plywood" blanks or just turn one out of Baltic Birch.
If the turning bug bites, there is madness. I used to spend part of everyday hunting for turning stock while my son turned it into shavings.
On a smaller scale, lets bring back wooden rings.
