Pink Ivory Rose Engine Turned Box

George Guadiane

Pink Ivory Rose Engine Turned Box I forgot to take a picture of the bottom which also has some minor rose engine work. The lid is a snug fit (at least in this environment). The insert which is a TIGHT snap fit, is turned from a piece of vintage ivory I had collected some time ago. I'm using a friend's AWESOME rose engine lathe. I'm happy with this effort but CERTAIN that I'll do better on the next effort(s)

Stunning design...well done. Any chance you could post a picture of your friend's rose engine?

It will take a week or so, I have a VERY full schedule and he's an hour drive in each direction.

Under magnification I can see that I was trying to cut too much at a time, so I didn't get crisp edges.

I don't know if you'll remember, but one of my other friends (Ron Pessolono - may he rest in peace) ued to call me "Mr Serendipity." Seems like I'm always falling into something good.

The guy who owns the rose engine lathe(s) has been chasing me for over a year to come down and play with them. He's over an hour away, so I managed to avoid it/him till recently. So NOW I'm hooked on all of the different things I can do with THESE toys. He supplies the cutters and TONS of pages of manuals and step by steps.

He just wants someone to "play with." So now I'm going to have to do a lot of driving.

An hour drive each way? Just down the road in mainland terms. Just like a drive to the north shore for us, which is why it will never happen unless we need to show visitors around. Not something I would do, but you are doing great at this new passion. Pretty soon we will be saying you and Bill Ooms in the same breath.

George, can relate to that have a Legacy Ornamental Mill just sitting here that could lend itself to some amazing turnings just waiting to be shared.
