Its going down to 2f tonight. It was 44 in my sboo this morning. Took a while to heat up and then all the machines were all cold. Going to leave the heat on tonight at 50 so it will warm up faster. Trying to hollow a box elder vessel. Finished a wonderful mirror and then dropped it on the floor and put a dent in it. Fortunately it sanded out without being noticeable. So now im applying more finish. I will try real hard to take care of it this time.
I moved here to TN last year from MN. It may be ‘colder’ there, but it’s definitely ‘cold’ here right now! My shop was 50deg today, didn’t prevent me from getting some putz jobs done out there, but did make my fingers a little less sticky
John, do you remember when it got down to -10°F a few decades ago? To get my car started I had to take the battery out and warm it up with hot water in the bath tub.
There were cars all along the road where gas lines froze. Seems like they would go maybe 5 miles or so before quitting. It might be a good idea to dump some gas line deicer in the tanks and shake the car to mix it up.
Yea I was went to Fall Creek Falls and photographed all day. Now I can't go outside for 10 minutes without freezing. sure was easier to tolerate this when I was young. I remember I was fine as long as I was moving. When I stopped to set up the tripod and take a photo (I used my 4x5 back then) My hands and feet would get so cold they hurt. Then I would have to hike rapidly for 10 minutes or so to get then warm although my feet never would warm up. I remember turning the heat on full and toward my feet in the car. I would take my boots off and have the heat hit my feet directly. Now I have this vibrating foot warmer that I use in the house to try and keep them warm at night. Isn't getting old fun.

It's been nice to have more normal seasonal temps the last few weeks rather than the warmer winters we've been having. Maybe this cold snap will kill off some of the invasive bugs eating our trees.
However, -20 at day break at the end of a week that never peaked above 15 -- you start complaining about the cold!

Since the gas likely has about 8-10% alcohol in it already there is no need to dump any more into it since that is what the de-icer is.
Right now it is -1F at my place in Ontario but that seems not too bad, it was -22F a few days previous and unfortunately there was a nasty wind chill factor added onto that.
We tried to send all the cold down to you but somebody screwed up and left too much of it here! Lots of outdoor New Year's Eve celebrations were cancelled or reduced due to the cold temperatures.

For some reason the silly animals and birds here still want food and water, even when it's cold. I have electric in seven places but they still need to be cleaned and filled. Fortunately, some years ago I put in a geothermal livestock waterer for the horses who drink more water than all the others combined.
I wear insulated coveralls over jeans and liners with a big jacket over that, headgear and insulated gloves.

I hope so too. Unfortunately everything I've read points to insect survival. Maybe if it hit -20 for 3 months it would make a difference but then some of us probably wouldn't survive either!

Yes. I avoid gasoline with alcohol in vehicles when I can and refuse to use it in small engines. For example, I add a bit of deicer to the sawmill gas tank and slosh it around. I also have an additive I use in my diesel engines. Maybe it's also just alcohol, I don't know.
I am thankful we have a house for shelter - we have heat, electricity and running water on even the coldest days! Let's not forget the person who slept under the bridge last night.
