I took the bead off the lid and reduced the size of the knob and took the bead off the bottom of the knob. I like it a lot better.

Much better, I like it a lot.
The grain alignment of the grain on the base is spectacular. Good job setting that up.
Beautiful, John.

John -- I think the new, cleaner lid compliments the classic ogee shape of the box much better than the more heavily ornamented lid. It is amazing how significant such simple changes can be to the overall appearance of an item.
Would you mind editing your post, above, to show the before as well as the after picture? I think that would help a lot of us to better understand the changes you made.
Here are both photos.

Its hard to stop putting on details, when you have all the skills to do anything you want. When do you stop?? Both are very nicely done but I like the simpler more elegant version.

Less tends to be more. While baroque has its fans, it cannot, in my opinion, compete with elegant lines. Your altered design made a world of a difference and the two versions ought to be featured in an article or book on good design. Made me want to do one myself.

Well done, John! The one with the larger knob reminded me of my ex's schnoz!
