Buy a handle with a large enough round hole to fit the square tang. Doug has them im sure. Personally i dont want to take the time to remove tools from the handles. I will on my 5/8 bowl gouge becaise i keep.the weighted handle on it.

Dave Schweitzer at D Way has one with a bit knob, that pretty much screws in. Most of mine are in wood handles. If you use a platform to sharpen, then hold the tool at about the balance point, then only light pressure with the fingers of the other hand keep the scraper flat on the tool rest. If you have a swept back grind, then learning to do it left handed is easier than sucking in your 'turning mucsle'... You don't sweep with your arms, you keep them by your body. Sweep/pivot with your body...

Cindy Drozda calls this style of handle insert a "handle adapter".

A piece of aluminium machined to a diameter to fit a drilled hole in a handle. One or two set screws used to lock the tool into the insert.

The one in the forefront has two set 1/4x20 tpi screws at 180 deg. Cannot see the second in the picture. This would work for the square tang of the scraper.

Happy to machine one for you for the cost of material and postage. Send me email if interested. I need to know the ID of the hole to fit the tang and OD desired for hole in the handle.

Thought a set of different shank size adapters come with a Carter & Sons tool handle. Don't know for sure, because I didn't purchase them--I got mine with a roughing gouge with handle door prize. Different size diameter came with a different colored anodized aluminum coating.

The two smaller Thompson scrapers or skews fit a Thompson handle with a 1/2" nose and the bigger scrapers and skews fit a Thompson handle with a 5/8" nose. They can be put in flat or on edge. I like removing my tools from the handle for sharpening.

Only scraper I routinely use is the big, fat, 2-sided bowl scraper from Alan Lacer for refining the exterior of bowls. I use it without any handle, and aside from holding it in the cold, don't see any real advantage to putting a handle on it.

I would certainly not try that with an inside scraper, like a side-ground round nose or profile scraper -- much more potential excitement with these, so the need for added leverage would require a handle.

Now, I don't use scrapers the way Robo does, so that's a whole 'nuther universe. I sometimes use a Sorby teardrop scraper on the inside of a bowl, mounted on a pretty small handle -- about 8" long, total? On a larger bowl, the entire unit along with my hands, is inside the bowl. Since I only use the scraper for the very gentlest shear-scraping, I don't need a heavy-duty handle for that, either.

I do have a big ole round nose scraper that I just used last night for the first time in a few months -- I probably ought to try hogging out a bowl a la Robo Hippy, and see what that other universe is like.

And in conclusion, a worthless comment! I suspect a square tang scraper in a Hosaluk or Oneway handle would do what you want, though.

Thanks everyone for the help. Confession, I'm lazy. Recently bought a Serious handle and love the cam lock for removing my bowl gouges for sharpening (dont like the added handle weight). I was hoping for a similiar type cam for the scrapers. The set screw would be my best option for removing the weight(but would slow me down); I may just make a wood handle. The reason I really wanted the removable handle is that my wolverine arm for the bowl gouges gets in the way as I sharpen on the other wheels platform; my grinder is setup with the platform on the right and bowl gouges on the left. I have to reset the bowl-rest arm everytime I sharpen a scraper. So I guess if i switch my wheels and setup, my problem should be solved (CPT Obvious here). My scrapers are only curved on one side for bowls, so I wont hit it on the other side. Also gives me the chance to balance by wheels too. thanks for bringing the obvious to my attention,
