>Dave ,you and Carole have been conning us. You two have been saying you were wood turners. I can see the floor in your shop and tools not covered with chips. No wood turner worth his lathe has a shop that looks like that. A clean shop is a sign of a sick mine.
I would post a picture of my tool holder but I can't find it for the ships.
Nuh uh..other way around!

>Barry, if you look closely, you will notice a benchtop router table on the floor, the yellow thing I seem to recall has a 13" planer sitting on it, and the part of a cabinet to the left houses a SCM saw. Note that they are all pushed against the wall in a more or less non-functioning state. What you don't see is the lathe, the grinding station with two grinders, drawer storage for chucks, pen mandrels, blanks, pen kits, game call kits, etc. and a big pile of shavings...all of which have accumulated in the past three months! I don't think you have been invaded...I think you guys sent out your rolly polly minions to spike our drinks, kidnap us and thoroughly brainwash us into forgetting how to use those beloved flatwork tools! :)

>Hi Dick,
I do admit I am a bit of a clean freak. :)
But these pics were taken at an extremely clean time, Just when I was taking pics for the web site. It almost never looks like this. :)
I will also tell you that after turning for a few years I have found that I do most of my work with just three tools. Not counting hollowing. But in the beginning I was a tool buying fool. Some have not been of the rack in quite some time.
Best wishes,
Dave

>Ruth, I built a small cabinet and put a lazy Susan swivel bearing on the top, bought one of the 18" (I think) circles of pine they have at Home Depot on it. I drlled as many holes, half the depth of the circle piece, in an offset circle pattern as I could to fit 1-1/4", 1-1/2", and 2" PVC pipe. I then cut staggered lengths of pipe to go in them, and used Polyurethene glue to stick them in, and ended up with the best storage idea I have ever seen for tools. You need to drill about a 3/8" hole in the bottom of each tube, so you can blow the shavings out and up into a shop vac hose occasionally.
Swivel wheels, three drawers and two doors and it holds almost all of my accessories, using up less than two square feet of floorspace. It doesn't move often, but it will when needed. I'll get a pic to you, but who knows when I can get Deb to shoot it for me. She's the digital photo guru around here.
It allows you to have everything standing up, and easily accessible with a twirl of the caddy, and various sizes fit different handle diameters. Gonna work up an article or tip for FWW magazine soon on it.
Like you, I don't think my brain could function in an antiseptic environment. I recently shoveled 18" of chips out of the studio out onto the snow outside the back door since the snow was too deep to get the trailer in there. Big mistake, (one I have made before, I remembered too late), because the shavings insulate the snow, and it takes a long time to melt, resulting in less than good footing as I walk out to get more firewood for the stove. Silly, silly me, huh?

>Rollie Pollie are we? Not sure how to take that. Could you post a picture of your chain saw? The possesion would be complete.
This was supposed to be funny, Not sure it's working. Vague reference to "SWM Seeks SWF with Boat, Send picture of Boat" joke.

>I have had excellent succes with the tool rack system from Woodcraft. It mounts to the wall behind my lathe, making the tools very accessable, and retains very little shavings, which was the problem with my first wooden rack. Shavings just piled up on it. I have attempted to include a link and picture of the system, but doubt my prowness in that area!

Best, Ted
P.S. Doug Trembath, do you have a photo of that slotted system lined with rubber(?) you were describing during your Turners Anonymous demo?

>Hi Adrien,
I saw a listing for a local auction at a vocational school. The dental lamp was on the list.
Believe it or not I got it for $10.00. The replacement bulb was about the same. It really works great!
Best wishes,
Dave

>Not very fancy but it holds everything but a few classic tools I bought from Ruth Niles when I first started. Just a five gallon paint bucket with holes cut in the lid.
