>Oh, Mike.....That is the most interesting piece that I've seen come out of your basement....
We need details!! Carving tools? How much of the leg area did you turn out? All I can say is...WOW.
Great work man!!!

I have only (until UPS arrives) the Dremel Flex Shaft tool and a few of the Foredom carbide shaping/carving bits. Using those and a bunch of little curved files I carved/shaped the whole main body and the legs. I did this piece by first turning the hollow form normally, but the rim cracked so I had to put the collar (what turned out to be a good choice) on. After I got to the bottom of the hollow I sanded it and then the rest of the way down to the base was done with the carving tools.
I think this was mostly beginner's luck.

>Nice work Mike. The hollowform is really nice and then the carving allows the imagination to run wild. Thanks again for sharing this with us.

I would offer my own humble suggestion, and take this from someone who considers himself the lesser of two artists here :o) Although the peice is very inovative, I could see the transition, from turning to carving, better somehow. It strikes me as a little abrubt, and maybe causing the bottom of the hollow form to look twisted, with a little carving, might go along way. Just my 02.
Looks great though as it is Mike.
