CA glue removal from polycarbonate

keith zimmerman, Normal, IL

>Last night I was using CA to strengthen a crack in a cherry bowl and, thinking the stuff was completely dry, started my lathe and had the CA splatter on the polycarbonate lenses of my glasses.

Question now is: Does anyone know if nail polish remover will damage polycarbonate lenses? I really need to get that CA off.

>CA glue is not waterproof. Soaking your glasses in warm water for a length of time might help. How long i don't know mine are still soaking. john b.

>Happened to me too. Optician said that there is no way to get it off, short of re-polishing the lens, I guess. Didn't think of soaking, though. Can't do without my glasses for too long, though.

Good luck,

>You could try this...

Use some CA remover first and then use

MicroMesh super fine sandpaper---use each grit

up to 12,000 grit----try this first on a piece

of polycarb first---not your glasses..

>Give your optician a call. Mine has used acetone on my lenses (plastic) more than once and now I just get out a q-tip and have at it.

>Acetone will damage some lenses and I don't know how to tell you which ones. Ruined one set and removed the CA glue perfectly from another. CA glue remover is less harsh but I haven't tried to use it to remove glue from my face shield or glasses.

I'd certainly try the hot water first.

>$200 to $300 will take care if it. New lens.

>I'm with Jim. Acetone on my plastic lenses has worked fine a number of times. Try on an outside corner, but my lenses were undamaged by acetone.

>I had the same concerns.

Ca worked fine on my lenscrafter lenses.

(your mileage may vary)

>Thanks.

I will give Pearl Vision a call to see if they can help. Maybe my insurance will cover it :-)
