Re: Enough Sausagehound Hijacking, Already! Help!

Greg Sloop, Portland Oregon

>Well, ours is equally friendly to everyone. Yes, he barks like a mad-man at first, but then runs up and practically wiggles into the ground in extacy.

And the trick to stop the barking is a soda can with pennies in it. A few shakes and he's off the barking.

My wife used to take him to work most days and he was great enough to walk around down-town Portland without leash and staying close, crossing cross-walks etc. Really busy and noisy days required a leash, more for her sanity and fear than actual risk the dog would get into trouble.

Mostly, it depends on how you treat 'em - what you'll get in return, IMHO. Most will tow the line if they are expected to do so. (Some, it seems though, have been in-bred too much and are just plain stupid. I've seen a few of these...)

Cheers,

Greg

Re: What Greg said

Rob in Kansas

>Yes, doxies can be barky when on their own turf. Mine will bark at first, but once a stranger gets past a certain point they will go up looking for treats and attention. Greta, my double dappel (sp?) one time barked at some people when they first came in, but as soon as they sat down on the couch, jumped up in the woman's lap to be petted. Like any dog there are pros & cons, just the nature of the breed.

As for the Newfie's, I have no idea. All I've ever had are dachshunds...great to keep warm on cold winter nights. That is when they don't crowd you out of bed! ;~)
