>Hi all,
recently purchased a Stanley 90 and have found it to be a little small for larger hands. Can anyone tell me if the record 077A is slightly larger and the pros/cons of each.

HC Sakman
>They're almost identical in size. I favor Stanley's design due to its infinite mouth adjustment. In Record you need to unscrew the toe piece, add or remove shims, put the screw back on. On the other hand, I changed the mouth setting in my #90 maybe once or twice within the last 6~7 years.
Chico...
If I may add....
HC Sakman
>Record 077A's machining and overall finish is much nicer than Stanley #90. Like all things in life, nothing comes "perfect".
Also, bullnose planes are this size only. Maybe you need to look at the shoulder planes. Do you have to have "bullnose"? If not, 1-1/4" wide old infill, Record 073 or LN 73 will fill your big hands.
Chico...
Never held it in my hands, but

>you might look at the Clifton 3110, which combines a Record-type bullnose with a shoulder plane by changing the nosepiece. People have said nice things about them here.

Thanks Alf. Hey Rob Lee when is...
AD
>the lee valley bullnose rabbet due out. You mentioned in a link on 1st April
"As for other plane, which will actually be available first - it's the #90 based bullnose/chisel plane. It'll have all of the features of our shoulder plane (except for the pivoting knob - as this plane is designed for an overhand grip). It'll be 1" wide, 4.7 inches long, and have excellent ergonomics"
Was this an April fools joke or is it coming in the near future? I already have your shoulder plane and am very pleased with it.

Andrew

>Hi -
That was no AFD joke...
Bullnose "should" be in stock when the June catalog mails on May 10th (1 week from now)...
We expect that supply will be tight for the first two weeks, until we start machining our large second batch of castings....
The LA Jack will also be in the same catalog, but with an expected stock date of June 15th - which we should be able to beat easily...
If I can track down a photo - I'll post it here later today...

>Rob, now everyone's going to be bugging you about the large shoulder plane. By the way...........:-)
Rob, another?

Re: Rob, another?
Rob Lee
>Hi -
Yes we will be...but it won't (I think) make the fall catalog. We're still fiddling with prototypes - and tooling's really expensive on this one...

Sneak peek for Andrew...

Oh wait, I'm asking the wrong group!

>What's the diameter of the "finger hole" or rather is the hole intended to be for your finger such as on your shoulder plane?
That is cute Rob!
HC Sakman
>The shoulder plane is AWESOME! This little cutie, as I can tell by the picture, is nothing less.
Nice work!
What's next? 1-1/8" or 1-1/4" bigger version of the shoulder?
Re: That is cute Rob!
Rob Lee
>Yup - the large shoulder (1 1/4" wide) is next...for sure in the fall catalog. (catalogue for Chico)...
Beyond that - I'm not telling... :)

Re: Sneak peek for Andrew...
Rob Lee
>Tony -
Hole diameter is 3/4".... really, it's a grip hole for the pads of your thumb and second finger.

alright... my first LV plane!
Thanks Rob -order will be on the way (nm)
