>I think it is just excitement. seagulls are talkitive.

I remember feeding them whole baked potatoes by throwing them in the air they were heavy enough to drag them to the ground (G) when we went to the dump you could turn over something and the mice would run and the seagulls would snack on them. what sport (G)

>Moses and Robert seem to really use one, thanks. I just got one at a flea market for twenty dollars; seemed high but I wanted it bad for mounting a wetstone. (A nice one is now on sale on Ebay.) Mine is a: "WILSON" manf by Fa?port Tool Company, Southington Conn. Anybody know any history on it or its value?

>Yes I use one, built a grinding jig from the shopnotes plans, the issue # escapes me now. When I use the jig, cranking the wheel in reverse lets me use the left hand to crank and the right to slide the jigged up blade against the grinder. Have to be careful not to stop cranking suddenly or the nut holding the wheel on starts to unscrew. I do chisels on the toolrest, cranking right and chisel holding in the left. Not too hard to do, but a bit much for wide plane irons.

Build 2 :)

>You've got to see my latest hand grinder. Made by Cheney & Sons, early 1900's patent date. It has a tilt feature and some other doo-dads I haven't figured out yet. BIG gear case about 12"-14" diameter. The thing really works well but needs a better tool rest.

Do you have any additional info on this or a link? I couldn't find it on his site. Thanks, much appreciated. Paul

>Barb,

Thanks very much for posint botht pic and the link. The link will come in very handy.

Reverse engineering the grinding in the picture looks a lot less difficult that the plans I came up with for a Underhill inspired two stone treadle powered grinding station that I have hiding in my project folder.

>Paul- Stephen posted that picture earlier here, because I had seen this in his shop and couldn't remember it exactly, but if you need more info, I'm sure you could send him an e-mail from his website ('contact us' or something). It may even be his old address at . It's all wood, with threaded wood screws, and all I lack to make one is an old, wide grinding stone I'm hoping to find in a barn somewhere. Stephen has a shop literally full of hand made tools and jigs. It's quite a place, and he's quite a resource! -Barb S.

>You're very welcome. It's such a simple set up, I imagine it could be engineered to work any way you'd prefer. Stephen used it for his heaviest grinding work, going to sand paper for the final honing, and got back to work very quickly...no overheating, and little noise. -Barb S.
