>A bad list, just cigs now. No Bill you'd never be on it. I know it good hearted ribbing. Now you got me thinking... I do have that old chevy truck front axle with leaf springs on it still laying in my yard from when I bought my house. There's a old brick BBQ in the back yard too....Hmmmm

>Well, at least those 13.5 years count for you, all that time you weren't polluting your lungs. I definitely need a new mind set. Maybe I just need to continue to "walk Bounder" when I'm travelling, get more exercise to keep the nervous energy in check.

Thanks,

Pam

>The experts say it's a much more difficult addiction to stop than heroin or alcohol. Amazing you were able to quit the amphetamines. When a doctor suggested I take valium (I know, that isn't an amphetamine) instead of smoking, I told him I definitely needed to keep my brain.

I'll give it another try, real soon.

Thanks,

Pam

>It was a wonderful movie; but then I loved the book, too, so well written. Only thing missing was Gary Cooper. :) Jude Law is so handsome and has the determined look the part requires; but he isn't that tall, lanky hero. In fact, none of these new guys are.

Why did you return it?

>And if he planned the trip for the right weekend, he could experience the pumpkin problem in HMB :^) I've driven Highway 1 north from as far as it goes.

I might be out that way for a visit in April.

Never Highway 1 again

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>Not after going up it from SF to Fort Bragg 30+ years back in a 40-HP VW bus (a trip that took roughly 400 apparent years) with, it turned out later, worn kingpins (not that it matters). LOML, whose bus it was, and who suffers from carsickness anyway, decided to re-examine her last several meals when we finally stopped. Short distances are fine and fun (as long as I don't look at LOML's face), but long ones...um, no.

>Right now, "Plan B" is for me to fly out to San Jose, and me and my brother and his kids to drive up to Oregon to visit my mother. Based on your rec's, we probably won't take hwy-1 :^) Thus, Sebastopol would not be out of the way. Your invite is most welcome. I'll let you know what transpires.

>Last time I was out there I drove up to Uriah, shunted west to Mendocino on a little 2-laner, north to Bragg, then east back to the freeway. I highly recommend this trip if you haven't been that way before, redwood forest, vineyards, farms, Mendocino itself, gorgeous, and it's only 20 or so miles on route 1, just enough to enjoy.

>I suspect I know those roads - yes, quite nice. Possibly the nicest road up that way is 128 from Cloverdale out to the coast. There are stretches of redwood forest that you drive through on this road on which (to my wife's amusement) I cannot exceed 25 mph because it would be disrespectful, like going into a European cathedral in shorts and a tourist T-shirt -- in fact, 25 feels too fast.

If I lived there, my blood pressure would be 120 over 70 again.

>Yeah, I took 128 west, a wonderful drive. Have to say I did drive more than 25 mph, but not that much more, the redwood forest did seem like a cathedral.

>I should move out to California, except I don't think there's a lot of demand for 18th Century furniture out there. There's not much I enjoy more than driving on narrow, twisting mountain roads, especially through redwoods in California. I'm partial to the Redwood Highway (199) through Jed Smith State Park. I think about half of the SUV ad photos are taken up there, in places like Weber Grove.

Did I tell you about the time I decided I just couldn't stay stuck in the middle of a line of cars behind some white-knuckled Yanqui Turisto creeping down Priest's Grade (hwy 120) out of Yosemite?
