Fiasco!
Total disaster! Big drum roll for the big glue up of 2 x 6 foot Melamine sheet to old MDF workbench using Dap Weldwood water based contact cement. Sanded and cleaned the MDF, applied the stuff with a big brush, waited 70 minutes for the stuff to set up, as per instructions, put dowels in place to prevent premature bonding, had Claudia help me position everything just right-- and the then the big moment setting the surfaces together and applying pressure for the perfect bonding experience!(Ha ,Ha) And... NOTHING. No bond. Stuff slid around all over the place. I've done this exact glue up in the past with solvent based contact and all went as planned, Not THIS time!
Resorted to setting large, heavy boards on top and using just about every clamp I own in desperate attempt to salvage the day (several days actually!)
So it's sitting there ,"glueing up", in clamping mode-- which is not supposed to be necessary -- and I'll have to see what happens.
Why is this happening to me?
