Question...if the handle to your vice going to be a knuckle buster?

Damn good question. I didn't think about that. I have to turn the handle out of the way to open the left top two drawers more than about 7 inches out. But that's all right. The drawers don't interfere with the operation of the vise when the drawers are closed. Where were you when I needed you?

My vice interferes with the cabinet under it, very similar to yours.  I also have two cabinets at right angles to each other and if the drawer on one is left open an inch or two it will bite a finger tip badly, because I open the drawers from the ends.

The message for you is to think carefully about your pulls.  I put two spaced apart and they work well.  The problem is they work well when I use two hands but with one hand the drawers tend to bind.   The drawers are wider than they should be for one hand but I am too lazy to use both.

I'm not really bothered by the handle/drawer thing. As I said, I just have to turn the handle to it's horizontal position so the drawer will clear..Just for laughs, though, I was thinking about fixing up some sort short handle that can to telescoped, hinged, or something. Have you ever seen anything like that Probably not worth the bother, but might be a first.

Great project all around, Eliot! Maybe just drill a couple of small holes in the handle near the end and add a couple of magnets to hold it up & out of the way? Or perhaps add a bullet catch to the handle?

Eliot......have you got all your drawers filled with tools yet??.......post a picture of your progress in using those drawers to get organized at the bench......I'm sure others would like to see that as well.

Roger, I have put a lot of small stuff in them  -- things like  safety glasses, small block planes, my best chisels, tape, measuring and marking stuff, etc. I made a big mistake in not making some larger drawers.
