Chip out....What happened???
Barry Irby
I tried to post this yesterday, Thanks for the explanation Ellis.
Making wine rake for friends. Airdried white oak. Planed a piece that had very curly snarly crotch grain. Dewalt two knife lunch box planer. It did reasonably well, better than expected. About thirty minutes later I decided the final thickness should be slightly less and took a light pass. (1/32") Bad tear out. Reversed the piece and took another light pass from the opposite direction. More bad tear out.
What happened? Surface drying? Light pass worse than a heavier pass?
I am going to sand it into submission.
