Has anyone built a corner cupboard

I just remembered Norm made a corner cabinet.....but didn't recall just how basic and rough his furniture making was back then.....drywall screws.....nailing parts together.....the Sears radial arm.....the Shopsmith.....painting the cabinet two shades of blue.....even the old Makita bandsaw that Rod Peterson wanted information on for his site so many years ago.

Those days are long gone.....but, its where many of us got our inspirational start.

We built a large mahogany 5 leg Chippendale ball and claw foot curved writing table, and delivered it upstairs, across a balcony, down a hall, around a corner and into an office. Amazingly, two of us did it without dinging walls, railings, door jambs or the desk. The delivery reminded me a lot of those old puzzles made from bent forged nails, only a lot larger and more delicate. A few years later, the customer sold the house. I got a report late last year that the house was on the market again, and empty except for the writing desk, which was still right where we had set it down.

So, I guess the lesson from that one is that sometimes the problem is conceptual, not strictly physical.

It will be tough to describe but here goes. I used scrap 3/4 ply and cut out something like large "L" with the letter being about 2" thick. The inside of the L ( i guess it would be the inside) was cut to the match the angle (135) with the lower leg of the L notched down the width and thickness of the face frame piece. The upright was the size of the wing piece. I'm not sure but I may have notched the outside of the L so to get a parallel pull with the clamps on the wing against the face frame. I made a bunch of them and afterward they were often in my way until I moved. Hope this describes it.

by E. Carlyle Lynch has a plan for a corner cupboard. It includes a sketch of a clamping block to join the frame to the outside stiles. I can take a photo of the clamp block and send it if you would like. The book should be available from a library - where I am they have an interlibrary loan system which can get copy if not available locally. Several of Lynch's pieces have been published by FWW over the years.
