I have to agree, several years ago I purchased a jig from Rockler. I then spent a few hours reworking the jig prior to even trying it out! I took out all "play" in both the jig and the jig guide fit to my saw slot.

When I set it up and adjust it I can hold .002 to .003 dimensions. I always work from the face side and adjust my mortiser to match the tenon dimensions.

I do cut and plane all my mating pieces at the same time, and mark my show faces. I have found by doing it this way mismatch is within .002 to .004" and after final sanding is impossible to detect.

My apologies. I missed your post and your question. My Delta tenoning jig is an older Model 34-182. I think the current model is a 34-184, and it's a little different configuration. Here's what mine looks like:
