Actually, it was all around us. I understand there was a tornado in New Smyrna Beach (about 20 miles south)—Deland, the county seat and about 20 miles WSW of us, got hit pretty good—Lake County, straight west of us, also got hit pretty good. The Villages, which has captured a lot of attention, is about 50 miles WSW of us. See below for north of us.
We were in Jacksonville for the evening last night (70 miles away) and it rained practically the whole time we were there—some quite heavy and with some lightning. On the way home it was raining the entire way. About 3/4 of the trip was among the hardest rain I've ever driven in. One hour drive and I was whipped when we got home. Nothing but wet here, though, although there was a fair amount of lightning through the night.
I was told this morning by my daughter (in Jacksonville) that she saw on the Weather Channel that a significant cell had passed through Bunnell toward Palm Coast (just north of Ormond Beach and spanning I-95) around 2300. That was about ten minutes after we passed through there.
Thanks for asking.
