>Hi all. Does anyone know where I can purchase some Isobutonal Alcohol. Have tried all the local Pharms with no luck and they don't seem to have a source for it either. Any help will be appreciated.

>Try Fisher Scientific - I don't know the ins & outs of private folks buying from them, but I think you can.

>Why do you need Isobutyl alcohol? What will it do for you that Isopropyl won't do? Do you need something with a slower evaporation time? Fisher usually doesn't like to sell to people without an EPA ID # for their chemicals.

>I will use it as a retarder when spraying Shellac. Isopropol has water in it,usually 70 or 90%. NOT GOOD.I have found some that is only 1% water. Should be ok.

>Before I retired, I found a source for purchasing Anhydrous Isopropyl alcohol. This is 99.9% pure - dry. I purchased the alcohol from Aaper alcohol in Kentucky. I'm not sure if they will sell to individuals or what the minimum quantity is for them. I'm sure you will have to pay a hazardous freight charge no matter where you find the material. http://www.aaper.com/products.html

>If you can't find a source for the "good stuff" 8-), try Behlens Behkol Solvent available from a lot of woodworking internet sources. It runs around $8 per quart, I think. It contains, I believe, isobutanol (among other alcohols) to slow down the rate of evaporation. Good luck.

>Are you located near Metro Atlanta, GA? I can get you something that you might use if you are. We use it to "slow" down the evaporation of solvents for our printing inks.
