DISPLAY TABLE PIC # 1

CARL BARTON

>To date I have sereved 28 years in the Navy, and the closer one get to retirement, many many think about shadow boxes and such to display our medals and such. A good freind of mine asked me to build this display table as it was something a little different than a box one hangs on a wall.

I made the box out of red oak, with a couple light of coats of red oak minwax stain and a poloy over that The legs have a slight tapper to them (first time I did this). As you look at the front you see an emblem burned into the face with two Navy coins to either side. The emblem is the Aviation Ordanceman rating ( Navy job or MOS for those Army types)both he and I have done all these years. The emblem was in fact was done by a laser and turned out very nice. On either side of the flag is more red oak with more Navy Coins mounted flush. Of course all the other goodies are in the table like medals and rank emblems as well.

Table is over 18 inches high, 36 inch long and 24 inches wide. This was the first retirement item I ever built and both my freind and his wife love it. His wife kept asking "did he really build this." Of course that was best compliment one could ask for.

>Carl,

I'm one of those "Army types" (retires Sergeant Major) that understands what MOS means. I also know that your friend will daily look at what you made for him and remember the friendship and went with the service.

Great way to display memories.

What a GREAT Idea!

>Good Afternoon Carl,

We dealt with Air Force Specialty Codes(AFSC) rather than Military Occupational Specialties(MOS). But even in the high altitude of rare atmospheres, I've enough oxygen in my brain to appreciate what you did and admire the result. I'm sure all of us who have an "I Love Me" object on wall or shelf know what that beautiful table will mean to him. Exellent effort.

>James,

How is retired life? I will have 30 years in DEC 2008. I am currently a Master Chief (E9) on the USS Washington in Weapons department. I am looking forward to 2008 and the move to Wisconson. Currently I am stationed in Norfolk, VA.

Take care James.
