This post is going to be a short one, as we’re heading off to Moab, Utah, today, on the start of our canyons tour. I haven’t been posting because my computer died several days ago and I had to buy a new one. It’s been a struggle to try to figure out Windows 8 and download and learn all the applications I need for image processing, FTP work, e-mail, etc., so this could be a slow process, as we’re also trying to have a nice vacation.
To quickly recap our trip so far, we headed out on May 13, spent the next five days in Hudson, OH,(outside Cleveland) with our daughter Mariel and her family, then headed west. We camped in southern Indiana, eastern Missouri, west-central Kansas, and just west of Golden, CO, on the following nights, before heading up to Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park for two glorious days. Yesterday, May 24, we awaited word that the Trail Ridge Road across the Rockies would be opening on schedule, and when we learned that it probably would, we started up the road. Just as we reached the barrier that had been up since snow season started last November, the barrier came down and we were able to be among the first vehicles to traverse the 25 miles or so to the western slope. What a glorious feast for the eyes, up through the tall pines and over the treeless, snow-covered high country.
Last night, we had to check into a motel, as we couldn’t find a single campground with vacancies, and we weren’t prepared to go boondocking as our refrigerator wasn’t working properly. The silver lining of this unexpected detour is that we have hot showers and a fast Internet connection that has made it possible to download several huge apps that will (hopefully, fingers crossed) make life easier in coming days.
The refrigerator problem and other minor glitches with our trusty camper have now been resolved, and we’re ready to roll. Sadly, Candy is nursing a very sore left leg that is likely to limit her hiking ambitions. We’re doing all we can to treat the injury and get her back to normal.
On par, the trip has been wonderful so far, and we’re loving our new camper. There will be more in-depth reports when we find some time in our already crowded schedule and get a handle on image editing with the new computer setup. Stay tuned.
