I am a part time woodworker. There I've said it. I wish I could do it full time but I work in a stamping "factory". I work in the toolroom as a machinist. I use metal working machines to make just about anything that you could imagine. I work to tolerances of .0005" so woodworking tolerances are a welcome relief. When I retire....I hope to do more woodworking and furniture repair as a small business. This hopefully happens in 2-3 years. I collect/use old tools. I love seeing old homes and think about how they would have been made using the tools that I have. I am in awe when I think about what these craftsmen went through to make things. Being a machinist I also think about the metal side of this. I have made many planes, chisels and other woodworking tools as I have needed them. Some are unique. Some are copies as I am sometimes quite "frugal". The list of my projects is not that long but I am proud of each piece. It includes a fireplace surround, coffee table, end table, breakfast table, 2 toy boxes, and a bunk bed for my Granddaughters dolls. I have also done alot of furniture repair. My wife runs a museum so I have worked on the 149 year old building as well as exhibits and items in the museum. I live in the country outside of a small town (Lowell) near Grand Rapids, Michigan. This also creates a work load to maintain the house etc. which also prevents getting out to the workshop in my 100+ year old barn. Well, that is me to the best of my knowledge, George Allchin
