The bark on this tree can be up to 2 feet thick. What kind of tree is it?

Sequoiadendron giganteum (Sequoia, Big Tree, Sierra Redwood)- kind of brittle but very rot resistant-

The big timbers in my grandfather's 70 year old barn near Clovis, CA were made of sequoia-- when we torn it down in 1960 or so, the 6X10 timbers were still sound and looked fresh when we chain sawed it up for (believe it or not!) firewood.

Wish I had that lumber now....
