A chessboard is numbered with all 64 squares having a number equal to the average of the numbers on neighboring sguares. At least one of the squares has a 1. What is the largest possible difference between the maximum and minimum squares?

Looking at the square with the highest number, we know that it is the average of the numbers of the surrounding squares. The only way for this to be true is if all the numbers are the same.
