Add one line segment to make the following into a correct equation:
5+5+5=550

Not
No

That would make it a true statement, but an inequality is not an equation.
Re: Friday extra
Larry Barrett
I can do this with 3 line segments:
.........................__
5 + 5 + 5(\) = 5 |50
(the backslash goes through the 5; I obviously don't know how to do this properly)
Hint
Alex Y
but an obtuse one
+24
Last hint
Alex Y
Slope of the line segment to be added is 1
Solution
Alex Y
No winner on this one
There are two nearly identical solutions. On either of the plus signs, draw a line from the top to the left side, converting the plus to a four (sounds like "+24", my first hint). The results are the following valid equations:
545+5=550 and
5+545=550
Re: Solution
John Veerkamp
5+5+5 is not= ( = with a slash thru it) 550 is also a valid statement.
Re: Solution

I agree,
5+5+5≠ 550
is a true statement.
But the problem asked for a correct equation, not a true statement.
