Tuesday Puzzle

Dan Donaldson

Here is an easy one. I will do another dice one. If I take two die and put the numbers 1,3,4,5,6,8 on one die and 1,2,2,3,3,4 on the other, What could I do with them?

Roll them?

Alex Y

Assuming you are looking for something a little more insightful than that, I will offer this observation, which might trigger someone else to get the answer you are looking for:

The number of ways of getting the results 2,3,4,...,12 are

1,2,3,4,5,6,5,4,3,2,1

Where that leads (if anywhere), I don't know.

You might be arrested in Las Vegas, but if you were Alex you would be able to talk your way out of jail, since the odds of rolling 2,3,4,...,12 with these dice are exactly the same as what you get with a normal pair of dice.

Dope slap time!

I can't believe I saw that pattern and didn't recognize it! Thanks for completing the picture, Larry!

And nice puzzle, Dan. Thanks.

Right, the odds are identical. The only thing that is different is rolling doubles.
