The price!
Answer
Dan Donaldson
As noted, the special thing is the price. She sent out notices to furniture and other vendors asking for free samples and noting that they could brag about their stuff being in her "pink palace" and use that for advertising. She got over $150,000 worth of free stuff that way.
Funny thing, when I tried that I ended up with spaghetti sizer from Handyman club of America. The most normal response was "Dan Who??"
