About 5000 years ago Egyptians invented an activity that required rocks. The Greeks developed it further and around 500 BC the Romans got involved. The Romans imported coconuts but later came to find they could use domestic materials just as well. More specifically, carved olive wood was commonly used.
What is the activity?

I actually played it in my younger days. Lot of Italians in the neighborhood then. No comment on the balls------
