Tuesday Morning Coffee
Bill Earl
Pour youself a mug of steaming hot coffee. Stand up and put your right hand out, palm up and place the mug on your palm with the handle pointing to the front. Without touching the cup with your left hand, moving your feet or spilling any coffee, can you cause the handle to make one full rotation around the vertical axis and return your hand to the original position?
How about two rotations?
Hint: You may want to practice with an empty mug. Maybe even a plastic one.
This may sound more like gymnastics than trivia, but it demonstrates an important concept of particle physics.
