Monday, Exercise in futility (long)

Gary Smyth

As promised this trivia is submitted. It has very little to do with woodworking except for where the location is. It is merely a bit of information meant to tease. No answer today. Just the facts. Decode the cipher and defeat the best computers and math whizzes around anywhere. Check the internet for a longer version of the problem.

With Gold at $1298+ an ounce there is incentive.

..I have deposited in the county of Bedford, about

four miles from Bufords, in an excavation or vault,

six feet below the surface of the ground, the

following articles: ... The deposit consists of two

thousand nine hundred and twenty one pounds of

gold and five thousand one hundred pounds of silver; also jewels, obtained in St. Louis in exchange for silver to save transportation ... The above is securely packed in iron pots, with iron covers. The vault is roughly lined with stone, and the vessels rest on solid stone, and are covered with others

This extract is taken from one of three ciphers. This one that has been decoded is based on the Declaration of Independence. The other two ciphers tell where the treasure is and the third how to divide the treasure. There are rumors that the location has been found (empty), but the cipher itself has not been proved and so the found location may be a hoax..

Decode this and you can buy us all Unisaws :

The cipher was pretty easy to solve. Turns out to be the recipe for a Chicago style hot dog. But I know it's a hoax because it called for ketchup. NEVER put ketchup on a Chicago dog!
