Tuesday puzzle

Three campers were running out of food. Adam had five energy bars, Bob had three, and Charlie had no food, but did have eight dollar coins (coins used here to stifle creativity involving eating the bills!). They agree to split the energy bars (which are identical) evenly among themselves, with Charlie using the eight dollars to pay the others for his share.
Since Adam contributed five bars to the "pot" and Bob contributed three, Charlie gave five coins to Adam and three to Bob.
Does that seem fair? If not, how much should he have paid to each?
