It's so muggy here all my little brain can come up with is a saftball...but here goes..... Made of "white wood" there are over 1.2 Billion of these in use in America every day. What are they?

If I had to pick, I would choose the first thing that came to mind. But I have a hard time imagining usage at the rate of 3 per man, woman, and child in the US each day.
If the item you are thinking of is no longer thought of as wood, I might think of the other end, and find the 1.2 billion estimate more likely.

I don't know that you are on the right track. (hint time) The term "white wood" is an industry standard term for the construction of these.

I'm guessing matches is what Alex has in mind. How about toothpicks? Chopsticks? Still hard to imagine being used at the rate Alex's says.

Not matches. The solution I "picked" was toothpicks, but if we can consider products made from wood pulp, I would think of the other end, sheets of TP.
