Let's go bowling for trivia!
Brunswick is the leading maker of bowling pins. It's no secret that the pins are largely made of rock maple. However, Brunswick is very picky about the maple they use. What is their guideline for sources of their maple and why?

Probably someplace very cold so the growth is slow. I worked for Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick, headquartered in Wisconsin where winters get as cold as a witches T***. Maybe there.

Ken had an inside edge and a good memory!
Brunswick claims that they do not use wood that has been grown south of Indiana. This is because of the winters, trees that are subjected to winter do not grow as fast as the trees that can grow all year long. The trees that have to shut down in the winter seem to be denser (it also takes twice as long to grow) and this makes the wood harder.

Actually I worked at the Mercury Marine plant right here in Sunny St. Cloud, Fla. We manufactured much of the electonic and plastic parts and shipped them to Wisconsin where the assembly plant is located. Never been to Wisconsin although I did spend the first 55 years of my life in New York. I do know cold.
