Friday Puzzle -- scrambled words

Alex Y

The following thirteen letter sets are the results of taking words, removing two of their letters, and alphabetizing the remaining letters. Your challenge is to find the missing two letters (different for each set) and unscramble them into a word.

E.g., for BJN, add A and O to get banjo.

1) UUV

2) JRRUY

3) NQUU

4) ABCUV

5) RTUZ

6) AAATT

7) FMMOU

8) NNNOU

9) ALUUU

10) DFJ

11) ABIRW

12) AKQTU

13) BQRUU

At least three of the above have multiple answers.

If those are too easy, try the following two, which have THREE missing letters:

14) GKKLU

15) AIIIINN

Bonus 2 (not really): How can I eight closed parenthesis without creating a smiley, short of turning off smileys altogether? I can preceed it with a slash, and get /8), but I want a character that will suppress the conversion without showing up in the text.

Will look at the puzzle in a few, but for the smily, use the entity for the paren. That is ampersand, pound sign,41,semicolon, obviously just the characters with no commas. You can put the 8 in front of this sequence with no space and it will work.

Here it is:

Re: Thnx *LINK*

Dan Donaldson

For any of that kind of stuff, just look up "html entities" and you can get tables to generate just about any character. I am attaching a link. The numbers will work almost always, the name version will not always work depending on the browser etc.

Re: Thou getteth credit

Dan Donaldson

When I thought of it, I knew it was archaic, so I looked it up to make sure there were references for it. ;)

I got quartz and flummox, too.

How about unknown for 8?

Re: Friday Puzzle -- scrambled words

OOPs, my 8 should be 14

And then there were two-- correction to hints

Alex Y

My apologies--I messed up on the hinted added letters for 4 and 15, which explains why those haven't been solved

The correct letters for the two missing ones are

4: ABCIOUV

15: AIIIINNOTT or AGIIIILNNT
