No winner for Monday this week. The name of the plane is a Foster�s Turntable plane. See turntable in hint picture. It was invented by a teacher, Edwin Foster, to help students skew cut end grain and keep the bed fully supported�as on a board edge. It could also be set to smooth plane in the traditional manner. It was marketed by Oliver Machinery of Grand Rapids Michigan, but the examples existing are by the Ohio Tool Company�perhaps the sub-contractor. Patent 842,453 . It is 9 3/4"� long x 2 11/16� wide with a thick double tapered iron, 2� wide.
Mr. Foster also had a text �Carpentry and Woodworking� (1916). The cover says �For six years the Secretary of the Dept. of Science and Technology at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY.�
