Friday puzzle 2 -- Trains
The other puzzle today is more like trivia, so here's a pure "figure-it-out" type of puzzle:
The diagram shows a train engine (black) and two box cars. The tunnel is large enough to allow the engine through, but alas, the boxcars are too wide. The goal is to switch the positions of the boxcars with the minimum number of "operations", where an operation consists of one movement of the engine. It always stops (ending one operation) to reverse direction, hook or unhook a car, or begin or stop pushing a car.
