But looking in Google, I think that Dale has nailed the species. I wonder if what makes it unique is its latitude. Is it the nothern-most one?

Or is there a poisoning in Russian history that involves this tree? I don't know Russian history well enough.

The Larch is generally found to be the northernmost growing species of tree.

The Hemlock tree is not the poisonous one. There is a Mediteranean herb that is also known as Hemlock. This is the one Socrates encountered.

I must admit, I was surprised at reference to hemlock as a tree, but didn't check it out. Interesting that there are both an herb and a tree with the same name.
