Friday puzzle -- worry bolts

This one is easy enough to check yourself, so don't post the answer, only whether you got it before checking.

You have two normal right-hand thread bolts of the same size and thread pitch. Both are horizontal, one with its head to the right, the other with its head to the left, and with their threads meshed over 1/2 of their thread lengths. Then "twiddle" the bolts the same way you would twiddle your thumbs, with the one closest to you moving up, then over the top and away from you, keeping the threads meshed.

Will the bolt heads get closer together, farther apart, or remain the same distance?

Treat this as a mental exercise, then search that coffee can for two identical bolts and check yourself!

I worked in the hardware dept of a Farm & Home store for nine years--no brainer.

Some brainer for me.;-) Interesting visualization problem. Got it, but had to think for a few minutes.
